Akita City, Akita Prefecture

In the area around Akita Station, while there are problems such as a declining population and a shortage of folk performers, infrastructure costs are being reduced, and residential and commercial spaces are being designed to be larger and more intensive. In the midst of this, the private orientation is becoming stronger, and the spatial margins and opportunities for regional exchange are being lost. I feel. For the production of the lion dance, I chose materials that are casual mass-produced items and symbols of a consumer society, such as local newspapers and cardboard boxes for local sake. Then, we put on the shishimai and danced around the town as if we were wearing the area, and examined whether the lion dance could live or not from the viewpoint of the space and the temperament of people.
I was able to interact with people I didn't know, such as people telling me, "You're good at it," and taking pictures for you. Although there were many places where shishimai could not be performed due to spatial constraints, in general, it can be said that the possibility of lion dance inhabiting commercial areas around Akita Station is high.We produced a seven-chapter guidebook, the actual lion head and body, and a video of the lion dance actually dancing in the city. We hope that it will serve as a clue to discerning the nature of the land around Akita Station, as well as functioning as a sprout to create a new culture that is indispensable for realizing a comfortable life.
