Gojome Town is a town of about 10,000 people located in the central part of Akita Prefecture. Originally along the road leading to Ani Mine, which was called one of the three major mines in the Meiji period, the area prospered as a stopover point for the transportation of lumber and goods. The main industries are forestry and agriculture. The Gojome Morning Market is famous nationwide and has a history of over 500 years. The population continues to decline, and in recent years, lion dances have rarely performed door-to-door visits. If lion dances exist in this town, what kind of lion dance would be necessary? implementation. A performance was held on June 12th.

First, I looked around Gojome and thought that the lion dance would appear at the Gojome morning market like a beast coming down from the mountains to the village. At the Gojome Town Forestry Museum, I saw a photo of the old timber transportation, and the photo of the 'Bachizori' transportation was impressive, and I began to feel a similar sensation to recreating it. The surprise raid on the morning market by lions could be interpreted as an ``artificial arrival of beasts from the village'' in Gojomoku, where the rate of artificial forests is extremely high. Humans appear as supernatural beasts, so-called snowmen. In other words, for the people of Gojome, who have chosen to live in harmony with the fields and mountains by making changes, and are actually living a prosperous life, it seemed to me that what they needed was faith like a snowman.

The flow from the mountain to the village is like the pillar of the city god that appears in the Gojome morning market. It is an existence that conveys the heart of the mountain god to the residents. The city god festival was scheduled to be held on June 12, 2022, but was canceled due to the spread of the new coronavirus. Coincidentally, we were thinking of walking around wearing a lion dance on this day, so it seemed that we had been given the mission of creating the bustle on behalf of the city god.

When I actually wore a lion dance and went down to the village and arrived at the Gojome morning market, I encountered another sleeping lion (Mr. Kudo's Shishi). Nemuri-jishi is a town free from misfortune that Gojome-machi should exorcise. This is an extremely artificial existence, and an incident occurred in which a lion carrying a wild animal on its back encountered it. In addition, this series of events was performed to the accompaniment of drums and gongs (Mr. Funayama's musical accompaniment) to the rhythm of woodcutters chopping wood. A land called Gojome where there are few misfortunes to be exorcised. On the other hand, ivy was growing thickly in the house, and the number of vacant houses was increasing. It can be said that the lion dance that we produced was able to acquire a freewheeling style that allows the performance to continue for hours in a parade style. (June 8-12, 2022)
